Backseat Baby

By: Mackenzie

I’m not sure how Tina ended up in that backseat. She was smart, pretty face, had a great job, and had so much going for her. Any man would be lucky to have her. Maybe too lucky. Tina had trouble in the dating department, because she was always viewed as a threat by most of the men that she dated. She usually made more money than them, had more career goals than them, and just had her stuff together when they didn’t. She really was the perfect catch, but too many guys that came her way had no idea what to do with a gem like Tina.

She met this guy on Match.com. Mid-thirties, no kids, and a great job. Although Tina was only 23, she took comfort in dating older men as she could relate to them better… or so she thought.

Time after time, Tina was let down by older guys just as much as the guys her own age. She hoped Mid-Thirties Match Guy would be different. They met at a lounge, had dinner with great conversation. He made her laugh and with almost 3 years of guy hopping, dating men she really didn’t connect with, she felt so good to find a man that could make her laugh again.

Everything was going so well that Tina indulgent in her fourth Malibu Bay Breeze. Why not? Mid-Thirties Match was treating.

I guess Tina got wasted that night. All I know, is a few months later, we’re here having brunch and Tina’s going on about some trip she took with a 6 foot insurance agent she met on eHarmony.

“What ever happened to Mid-Thirties Match Guy?” I asked.

“Turns out, he was married. And did I tell you I got pregnant by him?” My jaw dropped. “Happened in the backseat of his car,” she said. “I don’t even know why I did it either. That happened on our first date.”

Many thoughts raced through my head at that point, but all that came out was “Are you okay?”

She responded, “Yeah, I’m fine… I’m not pregnant anymore” and after a short moment of silence she said, “Next week, 6 foot Insurance Guy and I are planning to take a trip down to Ocean City.”
