Ava was still overcoming a terrible breakup when Moose entered her life. His real name was David, but everyone on the track team at Lincoln went by an alias and so Ava, like everyone else, called him Moose.
I don’t remember how they met, but before I knew it, Moose was practically living in Ava’s dorm room since he didn’t have a dorm of his own. He slept there every night and Ava even brought him food from the cafeteria every day. Despite cohabiting, Ava and Moose never had the talk to discuss where their relationship stood and ironically the two were never intimate despite sleeping next to each other every night. They would flirt with each other and cuddle in bed, but outside of that, the two were really just friends.
Ava loved having Moose around and envisioned them being in a relationship at some point, but she was happy with their “situation-ship”. Ava wanted to take things slow this time so she wouldn’t get hurt again and Moose, for the most part, respected that.
This went on for about a month until Moose saw the opportunity to make his move. It was a Friday night and Ava and Moose were getting a little tipsy. They were flirty, as usual, and a bit touchy-feely, so Moose decided it was good moment to kiss her. While Ava was sitting on the high-rise bed, Moose walked over to her, put his arms around her waist, and leaned in for the kiss. Ava put her arms around his neck and kissed him back. It was the first time the two had ever locked lips and Ava liked it. Moose grabbed Ava’s breast and began to push her back to lay on the bed.
At that moment, Ava’s mind started to race. It had been a long time since Ava was intimate with anyone and although she wanted that with Moose, Ava had never been with anyone else beside her ex. Did she want to raise her body count? Did she want risk getting hurt again? Moose wasn’t even officially her boyfriend. All signs were telling Ava to stop and so she did, pushing Moose’s hands off of her body.
Shocked, Moose turned around to walk out of the room. Ava didn’t follow him. Neither of them said anything to each other before he left. That night, Moose didn’t come back to Ava’s room for bed. Too prideful, Ava didn’t pick up the phone to call him either. And just like that, it was the end of their situation-ship.
A few months later Ava was on her way to a friend’s room when Moose was walking the opposite direction down the same hall. Surprisingly there was no animosity between them.
In passing, Ava asked “where ya been, stranger?”
With a smirk, he replied, “I didn’t think you would miss me”.
“But I did,” Ava told him, “I really liked you”.
“Oh for real?” he replied.
The two never stopped walking to finish the conversation and Ava never saw Moose in person again.
